Once again I apologize for a very very delayed review of Belgian Grand Prix 2007. In fact, I could have done without posting this review at all but decided in its favor for the sake of completeness. I won’t go into much details this time but will try and touch upon only the significant race highlights. Spa-Francorchamps is, without a doubt, the most picturesque track in the entire calendar and is famous for its history. The 7.004 km track is back after a year’s absence and corners like Blanchimont, Eau Rouge and La Source makes it an absolute classic.
If anyone among the current crop of F1 drivers can be considered as the King of Spa, it will be Kimi Raikkonen. Kimi won the last two Grand Prix of Belgium in 2004 and 2005 quite convincingly and he was a strong favorite coming into this race. If his current form was anything to go by, its not at all a surprise that he finally won the race fair and square. This makes it three in a row and certainly reaffirms his position in the Driver’s Championship. He drove a flawless race and even performed a ‘donut’ at the end of the race in a rare show of emotion.
A strong second place for Felipe Massa made it another Ferrari 1-2 for the season. The other title contenders, Alonso and Hamilton fared well enough in their respective McLarens and are still favorites to clinch the title but Kimi is back in the game. Alonso scored third while Lewis picked up the fourth spot. The fifth place went to Nick Heidfeld of BMW while Nico Rosberg of Williams got the 6th place. Mark Webber and Heikki Kovalainen filled up the other point scoring positions. The full results from the race are as follows -
