Lewis Hamilton, the McLaren rookie has done it yet again. He takes the first back to back win of his career which, impressively, is just 7 races old. On his way to victory, he soaked up immense amount of pressure from his team mate and two times world champion, Fernando Alonso. Alonso crossed the finishing line in 2nd place, just one and a half seconds off Lewis’s time. The United States Grand Prix 2007 witnessed many highlights and turned out to be one of the best races this season. Sebastian Vettel replaced Robert Kubica for this race.

It became very clear even before the race started that the battle is going to be fought between the two McLaren drivers. The Ferrari drivers gave it their best shot but the apparent lack of grip saw them trailing the McLarens all the way through the race. They were never in a position to challenge the silver arrows for victory. Felipe Massa, who started the race from 3rd on the grid, had an uneventful race and finished in 3rd position after surviving a challenge from Kimi Raikkonen towards the last part of the race. Kimi, who started alongside Massa in 4th, lost two places to Nick Heidfeld and Heikki Kovalainen at the start but later recovered brilliantly to overtake Nick on track and Heikki during the pit-stops to regain his starting position.

Kimi finished the race in 4th place. This race saw the resurgence of ‘old’ Kimi as we got to see glimpses of his fighting spirit which was missing for much throughout the season. Let’s hope he’ll be able to continue the good work for remainder of this year and beyond. His coming back to form is sure to spice up the upcoming results. The rest of the pack was their usual self and there was no real change in the pecking order. All in all, it was a good race with a few overtakes punctuating it and the mini battles between Alonso and Hamilton, Massa and Kimi were all worth it. McLarens now have increased the gap to Ferrari by 35 points while Lewis is ahead of Alonso by 10 points. The next race will be held in France on the 1st of July 2007.
