Last Friday, I went to watch the much publicized Himesh Reshammiya movie. It’s not often that I go to a theater to catch a movie but when this opportunity came along to chill out with friends, I couldn’t resist. Rarely do I take time out to sit down and write a movie review. Infact, as far as I can remember, this is my first ever movie review. Incase you come across any anomaly, you have two options. Just ignore it altogether or let me know so that I can improve my reviewing skills. So, here comes the review of Aap Ka Surroor - The Moviee and if you are wondering, I spelled the title exactly as seen on the poster.
The movie stars Himesh Reshammiya as HR, the Indian rockstar who’s out on a world concert in Germany. Popular TV face Hansika Motwani plays Ria, HR’s lady love while Mallika Sherawat as Ruby plays HR’s lawyer. The story revolves around the murder of a German TV journalist, Nadia Merchant. HR is framed for her murder and is subsequently arrested by the German Police. From there on, its all flashback as HR tries to remember what went wrong. Needless to say, he is determined to prove his innocence and win back his lady love. Well, I know you’ll be disappointed but that’s it for the story.
The acting throughout the movie looked amateurish with Hansika failing to impress but she sure looked cute. Mallika didn’t have a lot of acting scope and you’ll remember the movie for her dance sequences rather than her acting. Himesh’s was a standout performance. Apparently, he didn’t have to act as he was playing Mr. Himesh Reshammiya himself. What a joke! He carried out the role of an Indian rockstar to perfection. There were a few surprises - Himesh without a cap and Himesh flashing his teeth - were two of them. The auto-rickshaw scene in Germany was a real classic.
Himesh, however, impressed once again with his brand new compositions for this movie. There were a lot of songs through out the movie and most of them were quite good. The tunes used for this movie were new with a few old and popular tunes thrown in. There’s also a remake of R.D. Burman’s Mehbooba Mehbooba song sung by Himesh and Asha Bhonsle. My favourite among them were Tera Mera Milna and Ya Ali. Apart from the songs, the only other thing worth mentioning about this movie are its lovely picturesque locations.
All said and done, it has become clear once again that Himesh as a music composer and singer is a lot better than Himesh as an actor. The movie received an wonderful opening throughout India which goes to show there’s no shortage of Himesh fans. There are also talks about a sequel to this movie being in the pipeline. Let’s wish Himesh all the best in his acting endeavor and hope he returns to his senses soon.

No matter how the movie is, Himesh must be credited for breaking the notion that only well established sons of actors can make it big. A lot of people dream of working in movies but leave their dreams aside owing to fear. With this movie, they should feel that they also can act. Just that the way to make it to the top isn’t going to be straight.

Oh yes! I absolutely agree with you on that. In fact, this movie might even turn out to be the biggest hit of the year. It has already managed the biggest opening of 2007 according to last week’s collections. You have got to admit, there’s something about Himesh that makes him tick. Time and again, he comes up something which becomes a craze. As he rightly said, “When there’s faith, there’s no fear”. It holds true for him.
