Naqaab Review

Its time for another movie review. I watched this movie called “Naqaab” on the 17th of July 2007 at a friendly neighborhood theater. This movie is supposedly “the most shocking thriller of the year“. Yeah, you got that right! The movie is directed by the well known bollywood director duo Abbas-Mustan who delivered some of the top notch super hits like Khiladi, Baazigar, Ajnabee, Humraaz and Aitraaz. Quite easily, they can be called the thrill kings of Indian cinema.

I’ll keep this review really short and sweet. So, lets move on to the story without wasting any time. A well directed story with many twists and turns through out to keep you interested. This movie is not an edge-of-the-seat stuff but it has enough to continuously engage your attention. The first half is somewhat quiet as the movie tries to build up all the suspense. The second half continues in the same vein until the surprise is revealed. The movie appears to have lost its plot there but suddenly another twist in the climax makes up for that slippage.

All that makes up an interesting two hours and a bit more. The story has four main characters or protagonists. First of them is a multi-millionaire, Karan played by Bobby Deol who’s in love with a girl called Sophie. Her character is played by the debutant actress Urvashi Sharma. The third character is the eloquent and charismatic Vicky, played by Akshaye Khanna. The fourth lead character is combinedly played by the cameras. Yes, you’ll have lots of cameras everywhere from camcorders to web-cams. The entire movie is set in Dubai.

Among the male leads, Akshaye Khanna impressed yet again and delivered his role with utmost conviction. Bobby Deol was so-so and did just enough to make him count. The most impressive of them all was Urvashi. She looks pretty and she can act! Watching someone like Urvashi carry out her role like a veteran speaks volumes of her ability and signals greater prospects for her. The rest of the cast can be ignored. Overall, the movie is good and definitely worth a watch atleast once. If not for anything, watch it for the model turned actress, Urvashi Sharma.

Hmmm.. Do you know that giving a bollywood movie a score of over 5/10 is a crime punishable by death.

LOL @ whoever told you that! I dunno if its an original storyline but it surely deserves a 7/10 rating according to me. I know most of the Bollywood movies are either copied or crap but this one is a bit different. Worth a watch one time atleast.
